Turkey Market AssessmentLocation: Turkey Grameen Foundation conducted an assessment of the Turkish microfinance industry on behalf of Grameen-Jameel, a joint venture between Grameen Foundation and Grow Well Limited, a subsidiary of the Abdul Latif Jameel Group (ALJ). Via remote research and onsite visits, using finance, research and analytical skills, two Bankers without Borders volunteers supported the growth and development of the Turkish microfinance sector. |
Human Capital Management Assessment Tool with Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO)Location: Nigeria A Bankers without Borders volunteer piloted the implementation of the Grameen Foundation Human Capital Management (HCM) assessment tool with LAPO, a Nigerian microfinance institution. The HCM assessment tool is designed to identify the organization’s current human capital management practices and identify HCM priorities based upon the institution's business strategy. The volunteer analyzed existing practices and developed an assessment report, including a prioritization of practices and a gap analysis. |
Mobile Banking PilotLocation: Kumasi, Ghana, A volunteer developed an in-depth knowledge of the mobile banking pilot at a microfinance institution partner headquartered in Kumasi, Ghana. For three weeks, the volunteer worked in the field to collect, combine, and analyze operational data and mobile banking data, for return on investment (ROI) analysis of the pilot. |
Financial expertise for New Social Businesses in IndiaLocation: India Bankers without Borders’ volunteers are providing financial expertise for new Danone projects, supporting the danone.communities' mission of bringing health through food to the largest number of people. In India volunteers are creating a social business model to accelerate access of rural population to safe drinking water, from 500 water treatment units to 5,000. |

With this tool the MFIs can better determine their clients’ needs, which programs are most effective, how quickly clients leave poverty, and what helps them to move out of poverty faster. |
Instructing, Supporting Research ActivitiesLocation: Manila, Philippines, A research volunteer worked with local Grameen Foundation staff in Manila, teaching research framework and giving feedback on existing research activities. The volunteer established guidelines for focus group research used by MFIs in the Philippines and also the need for further technical assistance on quantitative analysis to use with PPI (Progress out of Poverty Index). |

Financial expertise for New Social Businesses in BangladeshLocation: India Bankers without Borders’ volunteers are providing financial expertise for new Danone projects, supporting the danone communities' mission of bringing health through food to the largest number of people. In Bangladesh volunteers are creating a model farm of 200-300 cows that will show the way to improve productivity and will help improve the revenues of the neighboring milk farmers.In addition, volunteers are also creating a social business model to distribute essential packaged goods to poor rural communities. |
